It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Wain (1860-1939). He died at the age of 78 on July 4, 1939. Louis Wain was born in London in 1860. He worked as an artist, illustrating books and newspapers, and is best known for his drawings of cats. He revolutionized the art of cat drawing up until his death, by transforming them from simply animals into animated characters with human-like characteristics. Throughout his life, he exhibited at several prominent art galleries including the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Institute of Painters in WaterColours and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His work was beloved by many and continues to be referenced today. We mourn the loss of a beloved artist whose creative work still influences the art world.

When we finally know we are dying, and all other sentient beings are dying with us, we start to have a burning, almost heartbreaking sense of the fragility and preciousness of each moment and each being, and from this can grow a deep, clear, limitless compassion for all beings. Sogyal Rinpoche
