Mao Zedong, one of the most influential and powerful political figures of the 20th century, died on September 9, 1976 at 82 years of age. His life and legacy changed the course of Chinese history, as he founded the People's Republic of China in 1949 and served as its Chairman until his death 27 years later. He encouraged the formation of communes within the country and developed initiatives for industrialization, often driven by his philosophies of communism, which he outlined most notably in the 'Little Red Book' of his teachings. Having risen to power during a tumultuous period in Chinese history, Mao's rule and his policy changes had an immense impact on the world. With his passing, the focus of the People's Republic began to transition from Mao's ideology towards modernization and reform. Mao Zedong was a complex leader who was certainly not without criticism but set a formidable example of dedication and determination. He will be remembered by many as a symbol of post-imperial China, a determined revolutionary, and a major influence in the modern history of the country.

Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.
