On February 14, 2004, Marco Pantani passed away at the age of 34. Pantani was an Italian professional cyclist who was a pioneer in the sport. He notably won both the 1998 Tour de France and the 1998 Giro d'Italia in the same year, becoming the sixth person to ever accomplish the feat. In addition, throughout his career Pantani won a number of prominent races such as the Tirreno-Adriatico, the Tour de Haut Var, the Gran Premio Camaiore, the Fleche Wallone, the Gran Premio Industria e Commercio di Prato, and the Giro del Trentino. Pantani is remembered as one of the most iconic and influential figures of professional cycling, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be long remembered.
