Mario Lanza, the beloved singer and actor, passed away on October 7th, 1959 at the age of 38. Born Alfredo Arnold Cocozzain Philadelphia, PA, Lanza was an acclaimed operatic tenor, as well as a successful actor. He made his debut on the big screen in "That Midnight Kiss" (1949), and some of his other movie credits include "The Great Caruso" (1951), "Because You're Mine" (1952) and "Serenade" (1956). Lanza's rise to fame happened in the late 1940s, when he was signed to an RCA Victor recording contract and became a hugely popular tenor. He recorded numerous hit songs, including "Be My Love" which reached No. 2 in the US charts in 1950. Mario Lanza was a talented, charismatic performer who touched many lives through his singing and acting. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
