United States political figure Maureen Reagan, daughter of former United States President Ronald Reagan and actress Nancy Davis Reagan, passed away peacefully at the age of 60 on August 8, 2001. Maureen Patricia Reagan was born January 4, 1941 in Los Angeles, California. Raised in a politically active family, Maureen earned a degree from the University of California, Davis and spent time as a television news correspondent, actress, and author. Politically active herself, Maureen was the chairwoman of the California Federation of Republican Women for four terms, a member of the Republican National Committee, and a frequent media commentator on political issues. She ran an unsuccessful campaign for the United States Senate in 1982. Maureen married John Filippone in 1984, had two children, and resided in La Canada Flintridge, California until her death. Most recently, Maureen served as National Advisory Board co-chair of the Alzheimer's Association. She was a strong advocate of stem cell research and other initiatives to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, as well as fighting for the rights of adopted children and against tabacco advertising. In addition to her political work, Maureen wrote the book, "First Father, First Daughter", a memoir about her father the President, Ronald Reagan. Maureen's other works include "My Mother, Myself" and "Kane & Abel". Maureen Reagan is survived by her husband John Filippone, her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and colleagues.
