Maurice Ravel, an iconic French composer and pianist, has passed away at the age of 62. Ravel was born in Ciboure, France on March 7th, 1875. He was best known for his orchestration of Claude Debussy's music, which is regarded as some of the most important and influential work of the early 20th century. He also composed the famous Boléro, as well as many acclaimed orchestral and chamber works. He began studying music at an early age and attended the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris in 1893. Throughout his lifetime, he worked as a composer, conductor, pianist, arranger, and teacher. Ravel was awarded the Légion d’honneur and received much recognition for his contributions to French music. Despite suffering from a stroke in 1932, Ravel continued to compose and conduct for the remainder of his life. He died in Paris, France on December 28th, 1937. His legacy as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century lives on.
