Michelle McNamara, an investigative journalist and true-crime writer, passed away on April 21, 2016 at the age of 46. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Minnesota Law School, Michelle began her career as a staff writer with the online magazine The Justice Project, writing extensively on the issue of the wrongly convicted and the importance of criminal justice reform. She later went on to freelance for Los Angeles Magazine and LA Weekly and gained widespread recognition for her work on the Golden State Killer investigation. Her debut book "I'll Be Gone In The Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search For The Golden State Killer" was a critically acclaimed bestseller, released posthumously. Michelle also ran the successful website 'True Crime Diary', where she posted her musings on various unsolved cases and her vintage crime photos. Michelle is survived by her beloved husband, comedian Patton Oswalt, and her daughter Alice. She will be remembered for her gripping writing and inspiring courage to expose the truth.
