Nipsey Russell passed away on October 2, 2005 at the age of 80. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 13, 1924. He was an entertainer, actor, comedian, and poet. He was best known for his appearances on shows such as Match Game, What's My Line?, Hollywood Squares, and countless others; his talent and quick wit always brought a smile to the audience. He was the first African American artist to appear on a game show. He made appearances in movies and television shows such as Bonkers, Off Beat, and The Wiz. Nipsey Russell was a pioneer of African American entertainment, pushed boundaries in the world of comedy, and was a beloved figure in both the television and comedy industry. His legacy will be remembered for eternity.
