Nishikant Kamat, beloved film director, writer, producer, and actor, passed away at the age of 50 on August 17th, 2020. A native of Goa, India, Kamat achieved success both locally and internationally with his versatile output. Kamat worked in the Indian film industry for over two decades. He made his directorial debut in Marathi cinema with the critically acclaimed Dombivali Fast in 2005 and went on to direct several films in Hindi, such as Mumbai Meri Jaan, Force, Drishyam, Madaari, and forthcoming The Big Bull. Kamat also produced and wrote several films, including Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Buddha in a Traffic Jam, amongst others. His acting credits include Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday, the Marathi hit Lai Bhaari, and a number of works by acclaimed director Anand Gandhi, including Ship of Theseus and the unreleased Reality Bytes. Kamat earned a number of accolades during his prolific career, receiving multiple awards from the Maharashtra State Government, National Film Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Tokyo International Film Festival, and Busan International Film Festival. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and a large circle of family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
