Ole Kirk Christiansen (1891-1958), the renowned Danish entrepreneur, died on March 11th, 1958, at the age of 66. The Danish-born inventor was best known for inventing and founding the Lego Group, whose popular, patented interlocking bricks have been beloved around the world since 1949. During his lifetime, Christiansen's talent for innovation and manufacture was quickly recognized, and he set up a woodworking shop in his hometown of Billund, Denmark in 1932. Christiansen is remembered for his avant-garde designs, his creative business solutions, and his development of the "Lego System of Play" in the 1950s. Numerous awards and honors celebrated Christiansen's legacy in the toy industry. The growth and success of the Lego Group continues today in honor of its beloved founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen, and his longtime commitment to providing children worldwide with creative and educational tools for building and designing.
