Oscar-winning actor and film director Orson Welles died on October 10, 1985 in Los Angeles. He was 70 years old. Welles was best remembered for his 1941 masterpiece, "Citizen Kane," a film that has often been cited as the most influential and greatest of all time. He was nominated for Academy Awards for his lead roles in "Citizen Kane" and for composing, co-writing, producing and directing the film. On the small screen, Welles starred in such TV series as "The Twilight Zone" and "The Virginian" and won an Emmy Award for his narration of "The Little RGB Show" in 1955. In addition, Welles wrote, directed, and produced over a dozen motion pictures in a career that spanned more than 50 years, including "The Lady from Shanghai," "F is for Fake," and "Chimes at Midnight." In addition, Welles was widely known for his unique voice and an extensive array of roles on the radio, including the notorious 1938 broadcast of "The War of the Worlds." Welles was married and divorced three times and had three daughters. He will be remembered for his extraordinary talent and for his creative genius.
