Kane Tanaka, who at the time of her death was recognized as the oldest living person, died on April 19, 2022, at the age of 119. The daughter of wealthy oyser farmers, Kane Tanaka was born in a village near Fukuoka in Japan on January 2, 1903. She grew up contributing to the family business and later worked as a seamstress until her retirement in her early 90s. She gained worldwide recognition in 2019 for her long life, and her longevity was celebrated by Guinness World Records. Kane Tanaka was the last known living person to have seen Japan's Emperor Taishō, who reigned from 1912 to 1926, and is survived by her three generations of descendants, including her great-grandchild. An enduring testament to both the strength of her character and the quality of her life, Kane Tanaka was widely remembered and admired. Her life will provide a lasting example of the spirit of compassion and resilience, which will be passed down to many generations to come.
