Charles Nelson Reilly, a much-loved actor, comedian, and director, passed away on May 25, 2007, at the age of 76. Born on January 13, 1931 in The Bronx, New York, Charles had an early love for acting, performing his first plays in junior high. He studied theater at the University of Connecticut and moved to New York, where he starred in Off-Broadway productions before quickly becoming a show business star. From there, he pursued a career in television, appearing on many game shows such as The Match Game. Reilly won an Emmy Award for his recurring role as Mark Bussler on the 1970s sitcom The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. The talented entertainer went on to appear in films like The Goodbye Girl, comedy shows like SCTV and Saturday Night Live, and theater revivals, including a Broadway revival of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In later years, Reilly was a prominent voice in animation, appearing in several animated series and being the voice of Hank the Septopus in the children's series The Octonauts. He was also an acclaimed television and theater director. Reilly's quick wit, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed. He was a true artist who had a great influence on the entertainment industry.
