Paul Kantner (April 17, 1941 - January 28, 2016) passed away peacefully at the age of 74. He was a renowned American rock musician, best known for being a founding member, singer-songwriter, and rhythm guitarist of the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane. Throughout his career, Kantner was influential in the development of the counterculture and psychedelic rock. Responsible for bringing San Francisco's "Summer of Love" to the world, Kantner often interjected his thought-provoking social, political, and environmental commentaries in his music. Kantner's musical contributions to the industry have spanned five decades and included writing and releasing 11 solo albums and 19 collaborative records as a member of Starship and the KBC Band. The San Francisco Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was greatly admired for his iconic musical style and continuously strive for innovation in music composition. His impact has made him a respected musician and highly visible figure in the Bay Area music scene. Kantner is survived by his two sons and an extended family of friends whom will remember his love of music and activism for years to come.
