Paul Schäfer, 88, passed away on April 24, 2010. He was born in 1921 in Germany and is survived by his two children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Paul was a German non-denominational religious leader and former medical orderly who founded the Colonia Dignidad, a remote religious settlement in Chile that housed numerous residents, including many children. He held a powerful influence over the complex and people, which included abuse and isolation from outside world. Paul was arrested for human rights violations in 2005 and ran a court-imposed sentence of over 20 years. He was released due to health reasons and returned to Germany in 2010. Paul will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all who knew him.
