New York, New York - Canadian-born journalist Peter Jennings has passed away on August 7th, 2005, at 67 years old. He died after a courageous battle with lung cancer. During his four decades of work as a journalist, Peter garnered multiple Emmy and Peabody awards, and was best known for his role as ABC News’ principal anchor. Starting in 1965, Peter served in various capacities at ABC News, including its chief foreign correspondent, and in 1983 he was appointed the sole anchor for many of the network’s world news programs. In 2005, Peter was recognized for outstanding lifetime achievement in international journalism by the National Television Academy. He was also an active member of various humanitarian projects, such as the World Federalists, Global Action, and the United Nations Association. Peter is remembered for his commitment to international news and for his brave and tenacious coverage of news events. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
