William Holden, beloved actor, passed away on November 16, 1981. He was 63 years old. William was born William Franklin Beedle, Jr. on April 17, 1918 in O'Fallon, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. After the war, he began a career in acting and quickly rose to fame with his portrayal of Joe Randall in the 1948 film Golden Boy, for which he won a Golden Globe. William went on to appear in over 50 films, becoming one of Hollywood's most recognizable stars, including his Academy Award-winning performance in Stalag 17 (1953). He also starred in such classics as The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954), Sabrina (1954), Picnic (1955), The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), The Wild Bunch (1969), and Network (1976). William will be remembered for his many iconic film roles, and for his kind and generous spirit. He will be dearly missed.
