Pier Angeli, an Italian actress renowned for her beauty and grace, passed away on September 10, 1971, at the age of 39. Born Anna Maria Pierangeli in Cagliari, Sardinia, she moved with her family to Rome in 1945 and found fame at the age of 17 when she debuted in “Frisky.” Her career blossomed as she acted in films of various genres in Italy, England, and the United States. She became one of the top ten box office attractions in 1954 and was featured on the cover of Life magazine in 1955. Pier Angeli acted in 17 films throughout her career, including the romantic comedy “Teresa,” the epic “Lust for Life,” with Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn, the western “The Man from Cairo,” and the epic Nazi drama “The Young Lions.” She also made television appearances in “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” Pier Angeli married singer and actor Vic Damone in 1954, the same year she was nominated for a best supporting actress Golden Globe. They had a daughter, Perry, before divorcing in 1958. She will be remembered for her great talent and beauty, which captivated Hollywood and audiences around the world.
