On Wednesday, July 3rd 1996, the film industry and fans around the world lost one of its greatest stars, Raaj Kumar, who succumbed to a brief battle with heart-related ailments at the age of 69. Kumar was born Kulbushan Pandit in Loralai, Punjab, in 1928, but adopted his screen name in 1954. He is well known and respected for his groundbreaking roles in a number of hits in the '50s and '60s, such as Mere Mehboob, Gunghat, D Harmaatma, and Heer Ranjha, the latter two for which he earned Filmfare Best Actor Award nominations. He gained immense popularity for his iconic dialogue delivery and was immensely popular with both the audience and the critics. Kumar's impressive career in Hindi cinema spanned eleven decades, with 109 movies released during that time. He was regarded as one of the greatest Indian film actors of all time, having redefined and revolutionized acting in Indian cinema. In memory of his work and contribution to the industry, he will be forever remembered with love in the hearts of his fans and colleagues.
