Richard Ramirez (1960-2013) died on June 7, 2013 at age 53. Also known as "The Night Stalker," Ramirez terrorized Californians in a 14-month killing, rape, and robbery spree in 1984 and 1985. Ramirez was born in El Paso, Texas in 1960. As a child, Ramirez's cousin was involved in Satanism and showed him gruesome crime scene photos. This had a lasting influence on Ramirez and his outlook. The Night Stalker killed at least 13 people and attacked numerous others. His crimes used to involve entering a home at night, raping women, and torturing people. He was most noted for his string of sadistic assaults and brual killings, leading to his nickname. Ramirez was apprehended in 1985. In 1989, he was found guilty of 13 counts of murder; 5 attempted murders; 11 sexual assaults; and 14 counts of burglary. He was sentenced to death, but died of lymphoma in prison in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Doreen Lioy.
