Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith (1904 - 1985), the last surviving grandson of US President Abraham Lincoln, died on December 24, 1985 at the age of 81. He was born on August 1, 1904 in Champaign, Illinois, to Jessie Harlan Lincoln and Warren Wallace Beckwith. Robert, a business lawyer, was a leading promoter of Abraham Lincoln's legacy, and appeared at numerous events and ceremonies to commemorate the 16th president, including the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922. Robert served in the US Army during World War II as a member of the Military Intelligence Division. After the war, he worked in various positions, including as a Vice President at the Chicago-based trading firm St. Joe Minerals Corporation. He married Ann Rodd on October 9, 1932, and had two sons, Robert and Lincoln. Robert was an avid traveler and noted collector of military and naval artifacts. His collection, housed at his estate in Virginia, included guns and swords from the Civil War era. Robert was a devoted and avid supporter of his grandfather's legacy and his memory will always be cherished.
