Roy Orbison passed away on December 6, 1988, at the age of 52. Known as the "Big O" and "The Caruso of Rock and Roll," Roy Orbison was a legendary American singer, songwriter, and musician. He sold millions of records and wrote hit songs such as 'Oh, Pretty Woman', 'Crying', 'Only The Lonely', and 'You Got It'. His music was characterized by his distinctive voice, and his long-lasting influence on rock and roll was immense. In addition to his solo work, Orbison wrote songs for other artists including, Elvis Presley, the Traveling Wilburys, and Emmylou Harris. He was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987. During his career, Orbison received six Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and was named one of the Top 100 Artists of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2004. He was an influential and beloved figure whose life and legacy will remain with us forever.
