It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shane Patrick MacGowan, who passed away on November 30, 2023, after a long and well-lived life of 65 years. He was born on December 25th, 1957, in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. Shane MacGowan dedicated his life to music, playing the guitar and writing lyrics, and was one of the most celebrated musicians and songwriters of his generation, having found international success as the frontman for the Irish folk rock band The Pogues. Born to Irish parents, he was strongly influenced by Irish traditional music, forming the Pogues in 1982. He wrote songs which featured prominently in films "The Commitments" and "Once". MacGowan was ranked number 28 in a 2008 poll of Ireland's greatest musicians. He won a Ivor Novello Award in 1991, and was honoured with a Brit Award for International Achievement in 2005. He leaves behind a legacy of music and a devoted legion of fans. We convey our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones in this time of sorrow.
