Smita was born on October 17th, 1955, in Pune, India. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pune in 1976. The same year, she married actor Raj Babbar. Smita was best known for her roles in critically-acclaimed films like Bhumika in 1977, Chakra in 1981, Bazaar in 1982, and Mandi in 1983. Her work in the Hindi film industry garnered her a plethora of awards, including Filmfare Best Actress Award, Padma Shri Award, and National Film Award for Best Actress.
