With heavy hearts, the family of Stirling Moss announced his passing on April 12, 2020, at the age of 90. The British racing driver was known as "Mr Motor Racing" and was considered one of the greatest Formula One drivers in history. He won 16 Grand Prix races, and was runner-up four times in the World Drivers’ Championship, between 1951 and 1961 with some of the best drivers of all time. He also drove in many other forms of motor racing. Born in London in 1929, Moss was raised by wealthy parents on the outskirts of the city. His first experience behind the wheel was at age six, when he drove a Triumph motorcycle alongside his father. Moss began racing in a variety of machines in 1948 and eventually joined Mercedes-Benz for the 1955 season, a marriage that lasted for four exceedingly successful years. After his retirement from competitive racing in 1962, Moss remained involved in the sport, notably driving in the very first running of the London to Sydney Marathon in 1968. He also published books on the sport, participated in promotional events, and acted as a racing consultant. He passed away in the city of London surrounded by family and friends. Moss was a true motorsports legend, and his influence on the sport will be remembered for generations to come. He was a devoted husband to Susan, with whom he shared a wonderful, 63-year-long marriage, a loving father to four children, and an inspirational friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
