Ms. Nargis, Indian actress and social worker, passed away on May 3, 1981, at the age of 51. In her celebrated career as an actress, she was a three-time winner of the Filmfare Best Actress Award, and was considered to be one of the finest actresses of her time. She made her debut in Tamanna (1942), and in a career that spanned over three decades, she starred in some of the biggest hits of the era including Mother India (1957) and Barsaat (1949). Her achievements were not limited to the screen; she earned international recognition for her philanthropic efforts. In 1973, she was conferred with the Padma Shri award for her contributions to the Hindi film industry. She will be remembered for her fiery spirit, her charitable endeavors, and her artistry.
