On October 31, 2025, acclaimed French actor Tchéky Karyo passed away at the age of 72. He was born on October 4, 1953, in Istanbul, Turkey, where he spent his early childhood before moving to Paris, France. Karyo began his acting career on stage in the 1970s and soon made a name for himself in French theatre. He then transitioned to film, appearing in numerous French and international productions, including "La Balance," "The Bear," and "The Lover." In the 1990s, he gained widespread recognition for his role as French detective Julien Baptiste in the British television series "The Missing" and its spin-off "Baptiste." Over the course of his career, Karyo received critical acclaim for his versatile acting skills, playing a wide range of complex and diverse characters. He was known for his intense and captivating performances, earning him a loyal following of fans. Outside of his acting career, Karyo was also a passionate musician and released several albums showcasing his singing and songwriting talents. He is survived by his wife, actress and director Valerie Keruzoré, and their two children. Karyo will be remembered for his contributions to the world of acting and music and leaves behind a lasting legacy.
