Tobe Hooper, an American filmmaker known for his horror films, passed away on August 26, 2017 at the age of 74. He was born in Austin, Texas, on January 25, 1943 and lived a life of creativity. Throughout his career, Tobe directed a number of critical successes, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Poltergeist (1982), and Salem's Lot (1979). In addition to writing and directing, Tobe also produced movies such as Invaders from Mars, Eaten Alive, Lifeforce, The Mangler, and Crocodile. He was nominated for several additional awards, including two Saturn Awards for Best Writing in 1979 and 1981. Tobe received many honors and recognitions during his career, including the Dallas Society of Film Critics Lifetime Achievement Award and the Vision Award. Beyond filmmaking, he also composed the score for the 1976 movie The Eagle Has Landed. Tobe is survived by his son, his brother, and two grandchildren. He will be remembered for his legacy in the horror film genre and for bringing horror fans a number of timeless films.
