Tom Fogerty, a beloved and pioneering rock and roll musician, passed away peacefully on September 6, 1990 at the age of 48. Tom Fogerty was born on November 9, 1941 in Berkeley, California. He found his passion for music very early in life, forming his first band in 1959. After briefly attending college, Tom decided to pursue music as his career. In 1968, Tom joined his brother, John, and fellow members Doug Clifford and Stu Cook to form the legendary band Creedence Clearwater Revival. Tom performed as the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist for the band, which went on to become one of the most successful acts of the late 1960s and early 1970s. During that time they had numerous hit singles, such as "Proud Mary" and "Bad Moon Rising," and sold five million albums. In 1972, Tom decided to pursue a solo career, releasing four albums over the next decade. In the last years of his life, Tom embraced alternative music and artists like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whom he befriended and mentored. Tom was an icon of American music, inspiring and influencing generations of musicians. He will be remembered fondly for his artistic genius and kind spirit. Tom is survived by his wife, Tricia, and their three children. He will be greatly missed.
