Tony Burton, age 78, died on 2016-02-25. The Detroit, Michigan, native was a highly successful actor and boxer, best known for his recurring roles in the original Rocky franchise films as Tony “Duke” Evers, Apollo Creed’s iconic trainer and cornerman. In addition, Burton had a lengthy career in the film and television industries. His other notable appearances came in such films and TV shows as “The Righteous Apples” (1980), “Movin’ On” (1975), “Cutter’s Way” (1981), “The Ladykillers” (2004), “The Towering Inferno” (1974), “Casino” (1995), “The Jeffersons” (1975-1985), and more. Prior to his acting career, Burton made a name for himself as a professional boxer. He became a Golden Gloves champion in the mid-1950s and was named the Detroit Golden Gloves Light Heavyweight Champion in 1957. Burton is survived by his three children and two grandchildren.
