It is with great sadness that the family of fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick (better known as Halston) announce his passing on March 26th, 1990 at the age of 57. Halston was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1932 and grew up in Evansville, Indiana. After graduating from the University of Indiana, Halston moved to New York City to pursue a career in fashion. He gained fame for his iconic style, integrating lush fabrics, innovative silhouettes and daring minimalism, and was a major influence of the '70s fashion scene. His distinctive aesthetic was often imitated in the world of fashion, earning him the nickname The Great American Designer. Throughout his career, Halston's work was worn by the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Liza Minnelli, and Babe Paley. His styles even landed him on the cover of TIME Magazine. In addition to his fashion sense, Halston was renowned for his success business acumen; he established a full house of companies, which included fragrance and accessories lines. Halston is survived by his sister, Beverly Frowick, and his two nieces, Lesa and Jenna. He leaves behind an incomparable legacy that has and will continue to influence the fashion industry for years to come.
