On Thursday August 12th 2021, Una Stubbs passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Una was known for her iconic roles in the Carry On films, Doctor Who, The Sweeney, and EastEnders (amongst many others). Her impeccable comedic timing and sharp wit will be remembered by generations of viewers. Originally born in Northumberland in 1937, Una cast aside her innate shyness to pursue an acting career in 1956. After a few years in the theatre, she was soon in high demand and appeared across radio, television and film, including as Nurse Crumble on the BBC satire show That Was The Week That Was throughout the sixties. Una was a versatile actress, and appeared in lighter productions such as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, alongside serious drama such as the British neo-noir film Mona Lisa, earning her the Variety Club Silver Heart, as well as starring in the horror comedy Clayhanger. She is survived by her four children and will be remembered fondly by her friends and colleagues.
