Walter Mondale, a highly influential and respected leader, passed away on April 19, 2021, at the age of 93. Mondale served as Vice President of the United States under President Jimmy Carter, and ran as the Democratic nominee for President in 1984. He was recognized for his roles as a United States Senator, Minnesota Attorney General, and Ambassador to Japan. During his time as Senator, Mondale was a skillful negotiator and was instrumental in reforming campaign finance laws and protecting consumer safety. His major accomplishments during his Vice Presidential term include co-authorship of the 1982 Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act, the establishment of the Department of Education, and the passage of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Mondale was known for his integrity, his boundless energy and ambition, and his commitment to social justice. He pushed for equal rights, advocated for minorities and women, and sought to leave the world a better place. He will be remembered for his valued contributions to the United States and for his efforts to make the nation a stronger, more equitable society.
