Thomas Stearns Eliot, internationally acclaimed poet, critic, and playwright, passed away on January 4th 1965, at the age of 76. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1888. He received a B.A. from Harvard University and a M.A. from the University of Oxford. Throughout his life, Eliot wrote famous works including "The Waste Land" and "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock". He also wrote essays and criticism which were widely published. Eliot was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948, making him one of the most well respected writers of the 20th century. Throughout his life he traveled in both Europe and America, while continuing to write and publish works, until his death. He is survived by his widow Valerie Eliot.
