Actor William Frawley, perhaps best known for his role as Fred Mertz on the popular 1950s TV sitcom I Love Lucy, died on March 3, 1966, at the age of 79. Frawley had a lengthy career in film and television, appearing in such classics as The Big Sleep (1946) and A Star Is Born (1954). He is also remembered for his roles on the TV series My Three Sons and Bewitched.
