William Guarnere, an Army veteran of World War II, passed away on March 8, 2014, at the age of 90. Guarnere, born on April 28, 1923, was a member of the Army’s famed “Easy Company”, part of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. He served with distinction throughout the war, receiving numerous awards and decorations for his bravery in the face of enemy fire, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a proud Philadelphia native, who had enlisted shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war, he returned to Philadelphia and worked as a welder and a construction worker. Guarnere was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family until his death. He will be remembered as an American patriot whose courage and dedication to his country remain an inspiration to all.
