André Previn, the jazz pianist, composer and conductor who was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, winning four, died on February 28, 2019 at 89 years old. Previn was born in Berlin in 1929, and his family fled the Nazis in 1938, moving to the United States. He started playing the piano at age 5, and by 17, he was a professional jazz musician. Previn became a household name in the early 1960s as a conductor and music director for major Hollywood films, including "My Fair Lady" and "West Side Story". In the 1970s, he returned to classical music, becoming a world-renowned conductor. Previn is survived by his wife of 60 years, the actress Mia Farrow, and their sons.
