Alluri Sita Rama Raju, beloved leader and freedom fighter, has passed away on May 7th, 1924 at the young age of 26. Raju was born on July 4th, 1898 in Wheperula Village, India. He was a prolific leader in the fight for Indian independence from the British Raj, leading the Rampa Rebellion of 1922. As a result of the fight, a number of illustriousBritish officers were killed and many more were wounded. A committed indian revolutionary, Raju was committed to his cause, traveling extensively to speak with leaders of different visions and volunteered with various social service projects in India. He further advocated strongly for the idea of arming local forces in India to fight against the British, and grew to be known a leader all across India. Raju is remembered, by all who knew him, as a leader with a singularly focused vision on independence for all people. Raju is remembered, also, by his selfless dedication to his causes and for his inherent sense of justice and equality for everyone. Raju’s legacy lives on via his steadfast commitment to the fight for freedom and through those who continue to work for justice and liberty in India.
