The beloved Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy passed away on September 2nd 2009 at the age of 60. Reddy had a long and successful career in politics. He was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004-09. His major contributions to the state included implementing free medicines and healthcare in government hospitals, free power and irrigation for farmers, subsidies and waiver of loans to farmers and free bicycles to girl students. He was an active and dedicated leader who was passionate about social justice, and was popularly known as the 'Loving and Caring Leader'. He was highly respected and admired amongst the public of Andhra Pradesh. Reddy was born in Kodur village in Kadapa district, and studied mechanical engineering at BENCO Engineering College in Bellary. He is survived by his wife and three children. He was a great leader and an inspiration to many in his lifetime. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
