Amelia Earhart, born on July 24, 1897, died July 2, 1937 at the age of 39. Earhart was a pioneering aviator and was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She disappeared during her attempt to circumnavigate the globe and her fate remained a mystery for decades. Earhart was born in Kansas and moved to California with her family at a young age. Her passion for flying was ignited after witnessing an airshow with her father as a child. She took flying lessons and bought her first plane three years later. In 1928, she became the first woman to cross the Atlantic as a passenger in an aircraft. Earhart went on to become a successful author, and a public speaker and advocate for aviation. In 1932, she became the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic and was celebrated as the first female aviator to complete this feat. On July 2, 1937, Earhart died while attempting to circumnavigate the globe. Her accomplishments and rallying cry for female independence remain an inspiration to generations of women.
