Boutros Boutros-Ghali, a former United Nations Secretary-General, died on February 16th, 2016, at the age of 93. During his five-year term, from 1992 to 1996, he worked to reform the UN and proposed a number of long-term solutions to humanitarian issues. He also helped solidify the peacekeeping missions in many countries that had experienced conflict. Prior to his UN appointment, Boutros-Ghali was a professor of law at Cairo University and a Minister of State in Egypt. Boutros-Ghali was an internationally respected champion of human rights, international law, and democracy, and he received several awards and honors throughout his life for his service.
