Sir Terry Wogan, widely revered radio and television presenter, passed away on January 31, 2016, at the age of 77. Born in Limerick, Ireland on August 3, 1938 to Jack and Winifred Wogan, Sir Terry began working for BBC Radio at the age of 24. Following two decades as a DJ, including hosting radio shows such as Wake Up To Wogan, he switched to television in 1971. He went on to host programs such as Blankety Blank, Wogan’s Perfect Recall and the long-running chat show Wogan. Sir Terry was honored with several awards throughout his career including an Order of the British Empire in 1997 and knighthood in the 2005 New Years Honours List “in recognition of his services to broadcasting”. He received numerous honorary degrees and was widely respected for his tireless charitable work. In addition to his broadcasting career, Sir Terry was also an accomplished author and wrote five novels and several collections of humorous reminiscences. He is survived by his wife and four children.
