It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bobby Farrell on December 30, 2010, at the age of 61. Bobby Farrell was born in Aruba in 1949 and was a key figure in the Dutch Euro disco pop group Boney M. Throughout his career, Bobby both sang and danced on stage, and was the original lead man before being replaced by popular singer Frank Farian, who took over as front man in the summer of 1978. Farrell first formed a band with friends as a guitar-player, although he also sang. Eventually, he was approached by a friend with a compelling offer to join the newly formed Boney M. and Farrell was quick to take the opportunity. The group became a popular success and continued to tour, perform, and create music for more than two decades. Bobby's enthusiasm and jovial nature served as constant sources of inspiration and joy to his bandmates and music fans alike. His mark on the music industry and and on the hearts of his fans will never be forgotten. His smiles and laughter will be cherished in our memories forever.
