On February 19, 1980, Bon Scott, vocalist and lyricist for the iconic Australian rock band AC/DC, passed away at age 33. Born Ronald Belford Scott on July 9, 1946 in Kirriemuir, Scotland, he was a resident of Melbourne and later Sydney, Australia. Scott originally trained as a truck driver at Fremantle Wharf in Western Australia and made his start in the music industry in 1965 as the frontman of The Valentines. He worked as a session musician and joined the progressive rock band Fraternity in 1969, recording two albums before becoming the lead vocalist for AC/DC in 1974. His five-year tenure with AC/DC brought about unprecedented success as the band recorded four studio albums: High Voltage, T.N.T., Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and Let There Be Rock, firmly establishing them as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. His inimitable voice, raw energy, and larger-than-life presence as a front man remain as an everlasting influence in the music world.
