Bradley James Nowell, born on February 22, 1968 in Long Beach, California, passed away at 28 years old on May 25, 1996. Nowell achieved fame as the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of the California-based punk-ska band "Sublime". His unique sound spanned a variety of genres, including rock, ska, reggae and hip hop, and he achieved commercial success with Top 10 singles such as "Date Rape" and "What I Got". Nowell was highly influential in the Long Beach music community and his influence led to the birth of numerous ska acts such as the Aquabats, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Reel Big Fish. He leaves behind a devoted partner Troy and their one and a half year old son, Jakob, in addition to his parents Jim and Nancy Nowell, and his cherished brother Michael Nowell.
