On the 20th of September in 2004, Brian Clough, age 69, passed away. Brian Clough was a revered figure through his football career, both as a player and a manager. He played throughout his twenties for both Middlesbrough and Sunderland, becoming Middlesbrough's all-time top goalscorer with 204 goals in 222 games. He later went on to become a highly successful manager, starting with Hartlepool United in 1965. He led Derby County to the Football League Championship in 1972 and 1975 and Nottingham Forest to the title in 1978 and 1979 - where they also won two consecutive European Cups. In 2000, Clough achieved knighthood for services to football. Clough's legacy will live on as he was not only a successful and respected football manager, but he was also remembered for his famous wit and outspoken attitude. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Elizabeth and Dr. Victoria Clough, and two grandchildren. His death has brought on much sorrow and grief.
