Burgess Meredith passed away on September 9, 1997, at the age of 89. He was an American actor, writer and director of the Golden Age of Television. Meredith was born in Cleveland, Ohio to a very prominent family. He went on to attend Amherst College, studying English, philosophy, and drama. After his studies, he ventured into Resident Theater in Detroit, and eventually New York and Broadway, appearing in several plays and musicals. Perhaps best remembered for his iconic roles in “Rocky” and the “Twilight Zone”, his lengthy career spanned over six decades, during which time he appeared in innumerable films, television programs, and stage productions. Throughout his life and career, Meredith was recognized for his achievements in theatre, television, and film, receiving several Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe Award nods. In 1993, Meredith was presented with the National Medal of Arts by President Clinton. Meredith, known for his humor and wit, enjoyed golf, boxing, and a great cigar, among other things. He is survived by his three daughters. He will be sorely missed.
