Carl Rogers, a renowned psychologist and humanist philosopher, passed away on 1987-02-04 at the age of 85. Rogers was known for his promotion of non-directive therapy, emphasizing the client's responsibility in therapy, and centering on listening as a way of understanding therapy. He was an influential figure in revolutionizing the clinical psychology model of therapist and client relationships during the 1950s and 60s. He worked towards creating a climate of trust in both the doctor-patient relationship, and in the educational system. Rogers authored and co-authored many books throughout his career, including “Client-Centered Therapy” (1951), “A Way of Being” (1980), and “On Becoming a Person” (1961). He was also the founder of the Person-Centered Approach, one of the best-known humanistic approaches to psychology. Rogers' legacy continues today through his works and his direct influence on modern psychology, education, and counselling approaches globally.
