Jazz legend Chet Baker, born Chesney Henry Baker on December 23, 1929, passed away at the age of 58 on May 13, 1988. The talented musician was renowned for his skills on the trumpet and his contribution to the cool jazz and West Coast jazz movements of the 1950’s. He famously collaborated with musicians such as Gerry Mulligan and Paul Bley throughout his career and released albums on record labels like Pacific Records, Riverside Records, and Columbia Records. Baker relished in a cult following with his unique singing style of mumbled, melancholy lyrics, made famous through works such as 'My Funny Valentine' and 'Tune Up'. He also released his own autobiography, 'As Though I Had Wings', in 1977. Chet Baker was survived by his family and friends, many of whom paid tribute to the 'Prince of Cool' and admired his immense talent and passion for jazz music. His legacy continues to live on through his recordings, and will never be forgotten.
