Clarence Williams III, actor, poet and musician, passed away on June 4, 2021, at 81 years old. Best known for his portrayal of Linc Hayes in the '60s crime drama series "The Mod Squad," Williams was born on August 21, 1939, in New York City. He served in the US Army from c. 1957–1960 as a private. Williams began his career as an actor during the 1960s, appearing in such shows as "Garrison's Gorillas," as well as portraying The Ink Spell Man in the 1970 Blaxploitation western "Hells Angels on Wheels." He also recorded a rap record in the early '80s. Williams' body of work also includes memorable television guest appearances, ranging from "The Invaders" in 1967, to his appearances on "Murder She Wrote," "Law & Order," and "NYPD Blue." Williams also appeared in the history-making miniseries "Roots," and in many feature films, such as "Strange Brew," "Half-Baked," "Echoes of Summer," and most recently "American Gods." Williams is survived by his two children, his granddaughter, and his extended relatives and friends. He will be remembered for his groundbreaking work as an actor and his commitment to preserving his creative legacy.
